Recycling in the ecoLoop, the closed material loop from Papier-Mettler, is both an ecological as well as an economically sound alternative. The ecoLoop system fulfils the most demanding standards. The bags are made to at least 80% of Post Consumer Recycling material, for example, and have therefore been awarded the “Blue Angel” environmental label. We reduce our impact on the environment even further by using closed water cycles, catalytic exhaust gas purification and heat recovery systems.
Papier-Mettler recycles more than 35,000 tons of used film a year, which it uses to produce its ecoLoop carrier bags. The opening of the second recycling plant in the year 2012 sees the capacity at the Morbach location once again doubled.
The five stages of the ecoLoop cycle:

1.Collection
Plastic waste and used carrier bags are collected from an agreed place and brought to one of our recycling plants.
2. Processing
The fim is shredded and washed. Once the drying process has finished, the material is melted down and a filter then removes any small impurities from the mass.
3. Granulation
The melted material is next granulated into small particles. These are cooled in cold water and then dried.
4. Quality control
Only high-quality raw material is released for further processing after it has undergone an intensive quality control.
5. Production
New recycling film is produced from the resulting granulate, which is used once again to produce carrier bags.
The loop is now complete and ready to start again. |
