| bioStep carrier bags are bio-based and made from the starch of renewable raw materials such as potatoes and corn. Fossil fuel supplies such as coal, petroleum and gas are running out fast. Therefore renewable raw materials are becoming more important particulary in the industry, as environmentally friendly produced products in comparison to fossil fuel products, alleviate environmental, climate and waste disposal problems. To take account of this fact, Papier-Mettler developed its biostep material – a film made partly from renewable raw materials that is biodegradable. Another advantage: due to its compostability in compliance with the DIN 13432 standard, biostep is exempted from DSD fees in Germany until the end of 2012. Important: Unfortunately, bioStep is not a solution for the growing amount of plastics to be found in the oceans of the world. As the carrier bags only decompose if subjected to heat, light and oxygen, they cannot decompose in water. Ecological product properties at a glance:
